If you are that far out Direct TV is probably your best option. Does your Direct TV give you local channels from the closest area?

Yes, local channels are included. Would the satellite receiver serve as an antenna for other channels too? Just curious as I know I could MAYBE pick up some free OTA channels if set up right. I'm not opposed to trying an antenna too if I can find a card with 2 inputs.

The newer satellites receive local channels like yours. Everything you get with your Direct TV will work with a tuner card. Reception on Local channels can be better OTA, but since you are in a some what remote area I am not sure. Some cards offer dual tuners. Here is an example

I bought a HD Antenna and am trying that. I have DirectTV and would like to tell them good bye, but so far, I can't get enough decent channels. I just set it up a few minutes ago. I'm not through playing yet though. I live in the woods, so not many channels for me. But, Direct is costing me a fortune, and there is never anything my Wife hasn't seen on. With Direct, I pay about $100 a month to get 200+ channels, maybe actually watch 10 and they package it so I have to pay for the top package to get the 10 I want. And for your next question, we live so far out, it's Direct or nothing. We have no other choices, just like with Internet, we have 1 choice and it's lousy.

Wish this thread was titled appropriately for google searches so it could help others for years to come. Something like "Problems with TV Tuner Card and Win7." It's not even in the results now but would be at the top if it had been titled correctly for the issue.

Good luck Steve. I was in the same boat as you, dumped Direct TV a couple of months ago. A lot of channel that the wife and I never watched. |

2 Avermedia m780 ATSC tuners, only tuner 2 works, tuner 1 no signal I would have posted in WMC but this seems to be a hardware issue. Device manager only shows one Avermedia tuner. These are identical PCIE cards. In device manager should it not display 2 Avermedia devices? It shows the USB vbox 3560 tuner, it shows an Avermedia tuner. Oddly WMC claims tuner... |

Cable TV Set Top Box + TV Tuner Question Hey there, Im new to this technology so apologies if I ask a dumb question! I recently installed a TV tuner to my secondary PC-DVico Fusion HDTV 7 RT Express. Need recommendation for digital cable tuner Today I made a mistake; I bought a digital tuner which I thought carried digital cable. As I was setting the tuner up the instructions clearly stated that I could not get cable signals through my cable connection, only over the air.
