Hmm ok one for the loony club some good refs and stuff in here but expensive hold onto what you are sitting on Beginner's Guide For Water-Cooling 2013!
I was doing some stability test with OCing, everything was going good. I ran 5.2 and seemed to be stable, ran games, pi, performance test, and IBT. All was good. went through again after about 30 minutes and started making screen shots so I can post results. Then all of the sudden I started getting temp spikes and bsod's. I reseated the 920, cleared the cmos and same result. What could it be? I cleared the cmos, reset the cooler, and am even now putting back the image that I ran the other day when all was good. If this doesn't work I'm taking the 920 back What do you guys think?
Well I just tested it again since the image restored. Now it runs fine, stays in the 70's on the highest core temp. I will keep an eye on it and see. I think maybe I'm just pushing my system to hard, which is apparently frowned upon. I will stay at 4.5-5.0 and see what happens.
If you are using stock Antec fans that is the biggest problem right there
Did you also scrub their paste off and apply your own ?
You should switch the fans with aftermarket even though they look good on paper they suck
Static Pressure fans are the type that is needed to push more air through your rad Corsair SP High Performance 3.1 mm static pressure those are what you need http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835181039
John, I have read that guide too. But a lot depends on what you want. It's kind of like buying a new car. The more features you want the more it will cost. You can get a decent kit that is easily expandable for the very low end of his estimates or sometimes lower. Here are some reasonable (for custom water cooling loops). I don't know pricing in AU. But the XSPC kits have some very good performing radiators and CPU blocks. Just pay attention to the pump and the rad. Water is much like air cooling, just water will absorb heat faster, but the name of the game is you still have to have the surface area to get rid of the heat. True with water and true with air. Notice all the best air coolers are monsters. Here is another good water cooling guide, but ,much more basic. It will teach you some of the terms and pay attention when he talks about pumps.
