For headers which are perpendicular to the mobo then these are helpful and needless to say much smaller and cleaner to route. They are very short and are just the ticket in some situations. Like any mod it either works for you or not.

The height of the connector is about half a normal SATA one plus the cables come off at 90°. In Alan's setup it means a long GPU card can fit without interference.

On my board the SATA connectors go in from the side, I use the 90° end on the drives.

Maybe I'm missing something but other than the Silverstone's being ultra thin, what's the other advantage?

You can get standard SATA cables with 90 degree angles. In fact most motherboards today come with a set of both straight and 90 ones.
The cables you are thinking of aren't the same as the Silverstones. The Silverstones come off at the side. Take another look at the cables in post #1436. The Silverstones are the ones with the really thin cable coming off the side. As far as I know, Silverstone is the only one that has a cable that comes off that direction. This one is close but comes off the opposite direction (I'm using one in my machine):

Right, I get that. However a standard 90 cable will also work in an area where a GPU overhangs that particular SATA port.

I was just asking. And yeah, it's yet another tool in the modder's tool chest

    Thanks.

With Alan's arrangement 90° ends wouldn't work, one would cover the SATA header next to it.
