Yeah, well it was free and will hold her over until I upgrade my motherboard. Then she gets my current mb and the other I5 I have. It replaced a Dellxps 410, a 2.4 dual core with ddr2 so it is in the same league The Dell was giving BSOD's, the front panel connections died, no usb or sound and being a PITA. Then when I cracked in the cabinet for spare parts, I found another 500gb Wd and 300gb Seagate hardrive I forgot about, so i slapped them in my build.

Mate it would make a real nice test machine and as mentioned nothing to sticking another CPU in there they are not that expensive - thats what I did to one I sent to my brother in the UK and an SSD of course it was a cracker just going from an Athlon II 240 to a 260 but it did have DDR3 though.

My old tester I shove stuff on it just to see what it is like and back up programs on sticks for the odd times I have to reinstall.

The old 64X2's run good to this day. My XP box has a 4400+ in a old DFI Ultra N4, runs 7Ux64 very nicely. I've got a old 9800gt for gpu, 4 gb, it's clocks 5.3 on the wei.

No, the mobo won't support a Phenom II CPU, so a 965BE is out. It will only support Athlon X2, Sempron (which you don't want) and some of the original Phenom 1 series.

    Motherboards - M2N-MX SE Plus

It's too bad. 965BE's are snappy little processors. I have one in my work PC and I like it a lot.

I have an Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Motherboard running an AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6GHz CPU with 4GB of DDR2 Memory. It's my spare desktop PC. It gets used as a Media PC. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 PCIe video card in it. The limiting factor for CPU upgrades is the max Wattage the board can supply to the CPU. Mine will only handle up to a 95 watt CPU, so no Phenom for that board.
My main desktop is an Asus M4N68T-M V2 Motherboard with an AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz and 8GB DDR3 Memory. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 PCIe in this one. This board is good for a 125 Watt CPU and thus supported the Phenom. I had originally bought the M2N68 as a bar bones PC and slowly upgraded it to the M4N68. I had all the original parts left over so I put it all back together as a spare and then repurposed it as a media PC. It does what I ask of it. Yeah, you don't want a Sempron.
