We become like little kids as we can't wait to play with the new toys. The build will be one wicked build and we expect pictures all the way thru !
Yeah the toys will be even better with a shiny new video card

Anyway my cooler should be here Friday, and I won't be able to get my new vid card till the end of the month. And with a few odds & ends here and there, I should have the system completed by the first week of Dec. Well... as complete as the next big thing :)

Just need to decide which on OS to install... 7 or 8(.1) Hmmm....

And I'll post some pictures when I finish it

If you need a Storage device, I would go with a wdc hdd or a corsair ssd. don't judge me anyone because these are just my opinions.

I'm already a member at 8. And I'm also running 8.1 on my laptop and have no issues there. I'm just not sure I want to run it on this rig just yet. Plus a desktop has a lot more stuff going on than a laptop.

Anyway I'm still doing driver research to make sure there aren't any issues with the hardware, or software I need for this rig.

See my system spec's; I'm upgrading it with the parts listed shown.

Anyway once my H100i water cooler gets here sometime today I'll start the build. It's looking like it'll be a Win 8.1 machine, but we'll see.

    Thanks.

8.1 - New build, newer OS

I went with 8 straight away with this current build and haven't had an issue. Don't regret it it at all.

Plus with the WDM in 8 and the latest range, driver support "should" get a little more focus. (operative word being "should" lol.

You should know by now that's mandatory around here

Congrats on your new build Drew Can't wait to see it up and running :)

Good choice on card. It's only candy addicts like me who go for the overpriced stuff. And you know I love my candy

Yeah that's my intention; especially since I'm already running it on my lappy. It's just that desktops have much more stuff so I need to make sure there are no hardware driver issues there.

BTW I've been reading where some are having issues with their soundcards under 8.1, especially the ZxR cards, which is what I have. Additionally Creative stated 8.1 drivers are scheduled to be released end of Jan 2014, so that definitely concerns me...

Driver release schedule - Creative Worldwide Support
    Issues - ZXR + Win 8.1 64 - Not Detected

Hopefully a clean install will avert those issues. We'll see. Right now I waiting for my CPU cooler arrive so I can start the build.

Dual boot? You could get Windows 7 first and when the sound card drivers are available, you could either have a dual boot setup or just upgrade to Win 8.

I'm just going to 8.1 and see what happens. If I find issues I'll go back to 7. Not interested in dual booting as I'm going to go with one or the other OS.

Anyway my cooler just came in so off to the build. Next post should be from the new system.

    Until then... :)

Yeah I saw that - and saw my USB sound card is not on the list

Which means I'm stuck with vanilla 8 for my desktop - for some reason 8.1 freezes the GUI etc forcing hard resets

So far that's been the only issue I've had with 8. But even vanilla it's a nice stable OS (and customized to my liking so .1 or .2 doesn't bother me much)

Just make sure it's one of the first drivers you install so if it doesn't work, you haven't wasted much time setting up an OS that's not useable.

    Looking forward to the pics
