The multi is the max turbo will go to when it kick in. Going from AMD to Intel is like going from English to Klingon.

but i still dont understand. why should i leave the base at 3.5 and OC turbo to 4.2? when i can just disable turbo and OC the base to 4.2? either way, speed step will be enabled and cpu voltage and frequency will scale.

At some point the turbo boost will lock itself and you'll have to work with your vCore. This you'll learn when you'll have mobo in hands!

You're not understanding overclocking. If you set the multi to 42, there is no "base" of 35 then. With Intel overclock is the CPU frequency, "speed", in Turbo mode. When browsing, reading mail, playing Solitaire it will run at much lower speeds, like 1.6GHz or a bit more. If you transcode video, play a high end game, render large images it will automatically ramp up to what you've set as the multiplier, Turbo mode.

Reiterating, with Turbo disabled the CPU runs at the Turbo ratio ALL the time, no matter how idle the PC is. Turbo mode and the multiplier are locked together.

You'll have to see the settings and play with them once you have things put together.

Read through this, it's for ASUS boards but will explain a lot about Intel and their different names of things than what AMD has.

Also again don't try to apply much of what you know about AMD to Intel. I suspect Tommy and Alan can speak to that being recent "converts".

Me to, I switched about 2 years ago I think and I was totally lost for awhile.

I was explaining that exact same thing like the first time you build a swing set for your kids the instructions is like reading a$$ backwards (the wording) that is

Gary this is the portion of the Asus Overclocking he should be reading the Offset part http://www.overclock.net/t/1219588/u...ide-and-thread I made it clear this is the direction he needs to go and he is starting to come around
