Sorry for the delay Bruce, but yes that should be fine.

Yes it will do the job correctly most likely. You should get a aftermarket cooler since they are way better than stock.
Unfortunately a 3rd party cooler wont fit as this board uses a custom cooler and subsequently has a different hole size layout.

    Hi Gents & Ladies......

......Some of my components arrived via USPS. One thing...I went for highest percentage alcohol I could find and that turned out to be 91%. If that isn't of sufficient strength I will replace it.

Here is the RAM and HDD. I mistakenly thought the HDD was a WD Black. It is a WD Blue.

Yeah, a lot of Dell PCs use their own design which can make upgrading certain components difficult. It's something to keep in mind when someone wants to upgrade a Dell machine.

Hard drives, no problems. Video cards check case size and PSU, PSU's check case size. motherboard check standoffs (some cases are ATX straight swap, others, particularly older models, can have different screw hole layouts.

That should be fine. As long as it removes all the existing paste from both the top of the CPU and bottom of the cooler.

    Greetings......

......It has been a few days, but I finally went in and cleaned up the CPU. I tried, but couldn't take a very good image to post that was clear enough to decipher the legend. Got out the ol' spyglass and did it by hand.

I'll list everything I got in order from the top to bottom

    • Intel '06 QX9650
    • Intel Core2 Extreme
    • SLAWN MALAY
    • 3.00GHZ/12M/1333/05B
    • L806B336

    I hope this is ok.

    KR,
    Bruce

    • SLACR MALAY

You should definitely go with the Extreme. It has a way higher clock speed than the Quad.

    Hi Computer0304......

......Thanks for the comment. I will go with the extreme.

Now, back to video/graphic cards. I can get the following card, from ebay, new old stock, for $21. That fits my budget. Will it be sufficient for WIN 7 ? I can always upgrade later. This isn't a do or die situation, as I have been searching through many sources of different cards. I hope to get one that I can utilize efficiently on this platform. I still have a second hard drive to come up with, so I still have time to shop around.

I think it will if it was made near 2008 (My PC was made at that time and I am running integrated graphics for Win7 fine)

Another thing to say: This card runs DirectX 10 and if you are going to play slightly new games, you may want to get a DirectX11 card if possible. If not, it will be fine.
