Man I can't believe how high these AMD R9 cards have crept up in price

I paid $319 plus 19 buck in taxes in Nov 2013....

Today I see at Amazon they want $519 bucks for the same card - Amazon.com: Sapphire Radeon VAPOR-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/DP OC Version (UEFI) PCI-Express Graphics Card 11221-02-40G: Electronics

Hmmm.... something strange going on with the site as I can't seem to upload files, or click to attach smileys

It's just due to mining Drew, AMD GPU's are better than Nvidia for it and prices went a bit silly. Things have calmed down in the UK now though and they are back to normal prices.

Your card is not quite as expensive on Egg - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202045 often independent sellers on Amazon come up with some stupid prices too.

Yeah, that's a heck of a lot better than Amazon. Still it's up by 80 bucks from what I remember. I got mine from Amazon because I get free 2-day shipping.

when i was in the market for a new GPU i wanted an R9 290, after finally being able to justify the expense of £300 for it, i went to my usual online shop to purchase it, to find the prices had gone up to £340 and as high as £380... So i went to team green

Yeah AMD has got to do something about this or they're lose a lot of customers; something they clearly don't want to do. Anyway I heard they weren't too happy with the sudden price jumps themselves so we'll see how that goes.

I guess the prices are all down to greedy retailers Drew. From AMD's point of view Mining should be a great thing as they would sell a shed load more cards, but retailers were pumping up the prices big time to make a pretty penny and rip people off, nice eh but no surprises.

When i bought mine it was $320. At one point they were at $600. I tried to sell mine for a 780 but no one bought. You can thank bitcoin mining for that.

True. I guess I should try selling my old 6950 for like a grand considering it's BIOS tweaked to a 6970

Anyway hopefully AMD puts a stop to this silliness.
