    Try this mate

Go to device manager, network adapter, your network card...right click, properties, power management. Check if "allow this device to wake up computer from standby mode" is selected. if so then uncheck it. Then go to your bios and disable wake up on lan , or disable any setting that can bring the computer up from sleep.

I would also consider re-flashing the BIOS.

Thanks Dude. Trust me, I've been all over Device Manager. Also, I stated in the update I disconnected the OS drive and the issue was still there. Also, the system is on the wireless network so I intentionally removed the wireless adapter cause I thought it was the problem. Turns out it's not

I've also got both on-board nics disabled in the BIOS.

    Thanks

I already have the latest BIOS. As one who is ultra obsessed about updates, this was a given. Anyway there are no more updates for this board as it's an old X58A motherboard. Also I've never had an issue until I moved it to another case so somewhere between the transfer, the board went bad or got damaged. It could have well been a short

At this point all I'm left with is calling Gigabyte's tech support in the morning to see if they can give any suggestions. Otherwise I'm left with finding another X58 motherboard.

Will post updates as they come along.

    Appreciate the suggestions.

Have you tried rolling back to a earlier version BIOS flash? Some times the newest BIOS can be problematic.

Though my answer to Dude was I had the latest BIOS (F6), it's one I've had for nearly years now. If it was bad it would have been showed issues.

That said I notice Gigabyte has two beta BIOS's out for this board - both released in 2011 - GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0). I may give one of them a try seeing how I've got nothing to loose.

    Thanks.

Any good news for us Drew? This may seem rather elementary, but have you checked the C states in BIOS? The C states can cause sleep issues, and have you tried to reset the bios to default values? I saw you mention the Beta Bios, have you tried it? I know a perfectly good bios can become corrupted, so re flashing, even with the same version is worth a chance, especially when considering buying a new board. Just thinking out loud. I hope you can find the solution soon.

    No luck.

Beta BIOS didn't work. Messing with various BIOS settings, including PM settings didn't work. At this point I'm pretty much sure it's a board issue, though the only issue is it's refusal to sleep or shutdown without restarting.

At any rate I'm just going to leave it until I either find another board, or just dump it for something newer.

    Thanks. Thread marked solved.

While you are waiting sygnus21 I recommend checking again your motherboard stand offs so this won't happen again.
What I thinking is the proper stand offs are there but their might be a extra one that shouldn't be there.
I have also found one time; where a I/O Panel shorted a usb port on a motherboard.

Thanks Jack but in post #10 I stated I completely disassembled the system to check there were no shorts or anything. Thus I've not only check the stand offs, but I actually wound up removing a few that weren't needed (they were extra).

    Thanks.
