Funny is their both the same XFX R7870 Ghost cards but they're made a little differently. The 7800 series card takes 8 and 6 pin connector and the 7870 takes 6 pin x 2 connector.

Sli & crossfire

What I'm about to state probably isn't popular but I haven't read anything yet that substantially negates my view. About the only reason I can think of that these sorts of configurations haven't yet been eliminated is the corporate bottom line. These days the GPU and graphics industry is fully capable of developing one single card that will produce the same results for all intents and purposes as quad SLI and relatively speaking many graphics cards can do this. Frankly, there is no practical reason for the overkill and the industry knows it. The only exception I can think of might be bit coin mining and even this isn't a very practical choice when one considers the resources required to mine bit coin, including the money spent on the power bill. Anyway, that is my view, opinion, observation etc.

BTW. . . NICE BUILD!

Actually, some manufacturers are putting out some GPUs that do not support SLI or crossfire because of small form factors that do not have room for multiple GPUs and/or because the newer GPUs are powerful enough to not need any help from using multiple cards. many gamers are not bothering with multiple cards becase so many of them are powerful enough on their own. The use of multiple GPUs is starting to slowly die out.

Of course, there is the "geek factor" that says multiple cards look cooler that will keep multiple car usage alive for a while longer.

Multiple Graphics Cards

Lady Fitzgerald

So good to see you are still here. Yes, I quite agree with everything you have stated. Having mega amounts of RAM makes more sense to me than multiple graphics cards. At least with mega RAM your PC stands a chance of future proofing. Of course, like anything else it's really a matter of personal taste but when one considers how much efficiency one gains with SLI or CROSSFIRE and how much it diminishes with each card there is no disputing the overkill factor. BTW I finally did get the ASUS X99-E WS board I wanted. The build is coming along but not without many unexpected challenges.

The build is finally over! Cable Management was the best that I could do for this case. It really has a bad airflow but I managed to keep every temp normal in a tropical place without A/C

I managed to OC the Q6600 to 3ghz at 3.18v. Anything higher just crashed my system lol.
