Wish it would stay this way

The dynamic disc management is really giving me a go. I don't mind the LSI RAID 10 end of things taking the ZEERO place but I really want my RAID 1 to function as disc 1, port 1, bay 1 as you see it here. Of course the RAID 0 is also on SSDs as well. The rest are all klunk drives mainly for storage and backup except for my backup operating system (Linux Mint) on an old Samsung drive I had kicking around the house. The running spare is there for whenever the Samsung decides to kick the bucket. Anyone know how to label drives running Linux? It looks rather odd without any identifiers.

I'm still in the set up stage so any tips/suggestions are welcome. And yes! I like blue. Thanks

ThrashZone, Yeah haha, I was told that stepping G0 overclocks so good and reaches 3ghz easily still I fear about the stock cooler. At full load it maxes out at 75c

I will get a better cooler for it soon

linnemeyerhere, I'm hoping to see 3.10GHz on this thing....The board is a good overclocker too

It's great to see older style rigs getting resurrected and I can surely attest they don't make 'em like they used to.

Nice rig Edward, glad to see someone else crazy enough to put 8 drives in their machine. Blue is the best color unless you have to sleep near it IMO.

Hi,
Finally retired my acer board and got a x299 tuf mark2 and a i9-7900x with a loop kit
After sorting some fans for it going with some 2800rpm and 2000rpm the i9 is manageable
Corsair H115i was taken back as inappropriate
Didn't even reinstall win-7 just inserted the original ssd install and installed the drivers off the disk

Very nice, Mike. You've been selectively brooding on this build for some time I recall. I've been hearing mixed reports about the i9 however. I suppose it's all the same old growing pains issues that come with new releases but nonetheless that is a sweet looking gaming rig. Can't say as I blame you for taking your time with X99. I went through a nightmare's worth of issues before I finally got my rig up and running the way I wanted. I opted for the GTX 1070 as I'm not a hard core gamer and it will suffice for my purposes. So glad I didn't buy into all the hype about VEGA -- So glad I didn't wait.

95% of what he was complaining about has been happening for a while. With the X99 boards, there were features that wouldn't work depending on which CPU you put in it. The lower end CPU didn't have the PCIe lanes. Intel didn't 'just decide' to release a new CPU because of AMD. It takes 2 years of development to create a new CPU release. All they did was move the release date up a little. These are the CPUs that were going to be released in Q1 2018. What's the big deal? What's changed? All the you tubers have jumped on the AMD bandwagon and on the hate Intel bandwagon.

Nothing has changed other than AMD has come out with a much better chip. Intel is still the performance leader, as always. AMD is cheaper. No news there. That is how they have survived this long, being the cheaper alternative. Yes, their margins are a lot closer now. The you tubers have sipped the coolaid. So, now we want to compare CPUs based on price not core count. So we are going to compare a 6 core Intel chip and an 8 core AMD chip in some benchmarks that are heavy on core usage. Well, guess who is going to win? Well, not always. Notice they don't ever talk about the fact that the Intel chip can be overclocked way higher than the AMD chip and overcome the core count deficiency. That's because AMD says that isn't a fair comparison. Really? Why do we buy unlocked CPUs? AMD says it is unfair to enable multi core enhancement on Intel CPUs because AMD doesn't have that. That is a capability of the CPU, why is it unfair? It is something one chip is capable of that the other one isn't.

For the last 10 years if you compared what you could get for say $300 with an Intel chip and an AMD chip, AMD would usually win the price/performance match up. The same is true today. So what's different? Intel still wins on pure performance, AMD still wins on price/performance. Everyone is dogging Intel about chipset problems that can easily be fixed with BIOS updates. Where was the outrage with all the issues when Ryzen was released. They had just as many as the X299 has. Many, if not most of AMDs have been fixed. Intel's is new and hasn't had a chance to be fixed yet. None of that is unusual with a new Chipset anyway. I remember the Z77 and X99's were exactly the same. My X99 had a lot of problems in the beginning; all fixed now. All of these CPUs on both sides have their advantages depending on what you are going to use them for. A 16 or 18 core CPU may be fantastic for high end production work, but I don't think either is the best choice for gaming. The one thing we have benefited from is better performing CPUs on both AMD and Intel. We are the winners on that front. We have better CPUs, more choices and lower prices. What's there to complain about. Linus's pants are too tight. AMD is winning and Intel is winning, but the biggest winner are the consumers, you and me. Buy what you want/what you need and enjoy it. You have a lot more choices at much better prices. Quit crying.
