By looking at that I'm surprised that your cpu didn't heat up and shut down.
Are all you intake fans filtered.
How long has it been sense the last cleaning?

Yikes that's a fair amount of build up. Suggest a quarterly inspection lighter cleaning schedule for your build. I do the same and that way it's only a small amount of dust relative to an annual where it's disassemble and reassemble time to get things proper clean.

And this is the opportunity of changing for a freshly applied thermal paste too!

So, today I decided to do some digging and see why the CPU cooler in my AMD system has been getting so noisy the last while, the fan has been going crazy for some reason.

The problem, as it turns out, was a year's worth of dust build up..

To be honest, stripping and cleaning this CNPS9700 wasn't half as difficult as I expected, those screws are tiny.. But it came apart real easy and went back together again with hardly any trouble at all.

I'm thinking the rest of the computer needs a good cleaning.

I'm thinking you're thinking correctly. I have to clean my computer two to four times a month. Every few days, I run a vacuum over the outside of the filters.

Well, it was the rising temps that made me go check it. Summer is finally starting to kick in this side of the world, it wasn't so bad through winter.. But I do definitely need a full fan filter kit for this case. Problem is finding one for the 600T that I like the look of.

Most definitely. Just after that I ran OCCT for an hour to let it settle a bit. Temps fluctuated by a couple degrees through the first 15min but from 20min in, each core sat pretty stable at 50 degrees for the rest of the burn in. Ambient room temp was about 28 while doing that, not too bad for a full time 4.0 OC. :)

I don't mean to be disrespectful or anything but for me it looks very hilarious to be a guru in computing but have that dump of dust in the computer.

No worries.. And no offence taken. :) A lot of it is simply lack of time to do proper maintenance, but lately I've also been paying more attention to cleaning up and fixing up the system before it goes to a new home. Knowing something and doing something, whether one has the time or not, are still two different ball games..
