    Intel Celeron Dual Core E3400 overclock help!


    My CPU does bottleneck my system I want to overclock it (the CPU not the system). I know that it is not designed for overclocking but I want to get it at least from 2.6 GHz to 2.8 GHz. I was only using for overclocking the ASUS Turbo Key that increases the FSB for just a few MHz, as a result I get 2.75 GHz and believe or not about 5 FPS more in games. First of all, can increasing FSB damage motherboard? Can it damage CPU if it is under 80°C? Can it damage any other component like RAM or HDD? I know that increasing FSB increases the frequency of RAM. If at full load with Prime95 at stock settings the temp is 60°C, how much of a overclock can I get? BTW I have the stock cooler, the CPU was heating up to 80°C until I changed the FAN Mode in BIOS to Performance Mode and not Silent Mode. And I noticed that my CPU voltage at full load is lower that it is written on the Intel page "0.8500V-1.3625V" and my voltage at full load is 1.256V, so I was thinking if I can get 2.75 GHz with that voltage, probably I can get 2.8 GHz or even more if I change the voltage to 1.3625V. And BTW the system is fully stable with 2.75 GHz and 1.256V, never had a crash and while playing games with the Turbo Mode enabled temps don't go over 56°C.
    Is better to overclock with BIOS or with software like the ASUS Turbo V, because in BIOS I can enable the option to make the voltage changeable from Windows. And ASUS Turbo V resets the settings after the computer is restarted/crashed, I just want to get a stable overclock by overclocking in Windows and then after I get the best overclock just type the values in BIOS so I don't have to restart my PC every time because I don't have SSD and it takes about 30 seconds to start up (because I reinstalled windows a few days ago), but however It's easier to do it with software and then apply the setting to the BIOS.

    I would get an aftermarket cooler when overclocking. Your temps are high for that processor. It is always better to use BIOS to OC. Your processor is actually an older one, not meant for overclocking. To over clock you need an unlocked cpu, one with a K in the model number. You may be able to squeez 2-400 MHz, but the gain is not much

    I would go forward with a Core 2 Duo E8600 or a Core 2 Duo E6750

    I'm not going to buy anything. I just asked how much of a overclock can I get with the stock cooler. BTW I'm getting a new PC soon. And can someone tell me if it can damage other components if the CPU is under max safe temperature.

    It depends Jaakow, once it reaches 5-10 degrees below the maximum temperature that CPU can take, you have to be careful as other components have different maximum temperature it can handle.

    Note: That CPU pretty much overclocks good actually.

    Now come the problems, Voltage issues...
    The CPU is fully stable at 1.256V and FSB increased by 10 MHz (from 200 MHz to 210 MHz) 1 MHz above that, system crashes after running Prime95, then I changed Vcore to +50 mV from auto and I changed FSB to 212 MHz and system did not boot. After an overclock failure the motherboard automatically resets the defaults, then I increased only the voltage (not the FSB) +50 mV, and in CPU-Z the voltage at full load was still 1.256V ?!?! How can I increase the voltage? The settings available are (Auto, +50 mV, +100 mV, +150 mV). Do I have to disable some of the settings? Please help!
