Will This Motherboard & Graphics Card Fit My Case?

    Hi,

I am planning on building a computer soon, and I have a little issue. The PC case I want says it supports motherboards up to 11" x 12", but it also says that it supports ATX motherboards. The motherboard I want (Micro ATX) is 11.1" x 11.3", and the graphics card I want is about 11.2" long. Will all of this fit together? If not, I assume I will need a larger case?

    Thanks

You should provide us with the case and mobo make and model information.

Looks like it will handle a Micro ATX

    Mfr Part Number: X-SNIPER2-GN
    Features:
Modern metal mid tower with side window
A look from right right angle
Top panel has room for up to two 120mm case fans
    Comes with 3 x 5.25" drive bays
A view of the side panel
    Inside look of case structure
    Case Type: ATX Mid Tower
    Color: Black / Green
    Material: Metal
    M/B Type: ATX, MicroATX, up to 11" x 12"

As well it has a removable hard drive bay which would open up space for a crazy long GPU but likely you won't need to.

So you think it will fit, and if I need space I can remove the bay you were talking about?

Aprevia X-Sniper: “Fits graphics cards up to 13” in length”.
    PowerColor Radeon R9 285: “4.41” x 10.5” x 1.5”.
    Macro ATX is standard (11” x 12”).

That extra 0.1” (if it isn’t a typo) shouldn’t matter, unless that case has an odd motherboard tray design. But I wouldn’t expect it to. I also believe all Micro ATX boards are standard (same dimensions).

However, you’re going to spend a small fortune adding the fans that this case doesn’t include (only one 120mm rear exhaust is preinstalled). You really would save more money in the long run choosing one that has them included (I'd aim for no less than 5-6 preinstalled fans; 3 exhaust, 2-3 instakes). I thought to get a $50 case and do that as well, thinking I'd save a grip of money, but it was going to run me over $100 (and I wasn’t even looking at the fancy fans either). So I just went with a $100-ish case and didn’t have to mess with the fans at all (this also bumped me into some handy cable management options on the motherboard tray, dust filters on every intake, built-in fan controller and so forth). I spent the same amount of money I would have on the fans by themselves, but got a heck of a lot more for it. Just saying you may wish to consider that.

But if you’re set on that case, I hope you’re also planning for a closed loop water cooling solution... at 7.75” wide, your HSF options otherwise would be pretty limited for air cooling off of stock. The better air coolers demand on average at least 9” in case width (and some of that width space gets eaten up by the motherboard standoffs too, so that would be closer to about 7.25” in reality). You will also, most likely, not be able to utilize the side fan mounts with an aftermarket air HSF (I also sacrificed my 200mm side fan for my HSF; they're nice but not strictly necessary. Air will be pulled in through the side vents without a fan pushing it in). Just FYI.

Also, I wouldn’t put anything in the middle HDD bay for the best air flow. Keep your drives down on the bottom four bays, if at all possible. It would be best if you could outright remove that section but I don’t think that’s possible on the case you’re currently looking at – I do not see that mentioned anywhere in the specifications or features, and it looks to be one solid metal cage to me as well (most of the removable cages are plastic, with side tabs for removal).

    Hi,

I actually have decided to go with another motherboard (11" x 11"), but I might need some help on the fans. I read what you said, but I am still a little confused (I'm new at this).

Please see this thread to help if you would :)

What Fan System Should I Use?

I would suggest you go with these:

Corsair Air Series CO-9050016-BLED 120mm Blue LED Case Fan

This coming from a Noctua man.....haha

You don't need to go crazy on fans. And it is not hard to add them to a case.
    Here is a good deal:
    COOLER MASTER R4-S2S-124K-GP 120mm Case Fan 4 in 1 pack - Newegg.com
And they are not LED and won't light up your room at night!

The hardest part is installing the front case fans.
You need to remove the front panel, which in a lot of cases is held on by 6 bayonet catches. Then you need to be careful not to pull out the wires attached to the front panel connectors, so you just pull them all out of the case so they will slide easily through the slot in the frame when the front panel comes off.

Another trick is to plan where the fans will plug into the motherboard. It is important in some cases to orientate the fan so the wire will reach the fan header.
