mini PCI Express slot backwards on mobo? upside down?

I have a Mini PCI Express slot on my computer No PCI X1 slots or x16 slots or agp slots (Found solder points for a PCI X1 but its not soldered on. What a downer.)

I was attempting to find a mini PCI Express slot to PCIe X1 adapter online but my mini PCI Express slot is BACKWARDS or upside down and on the wrong side of the case? What's going on here? and I did a comparison between a online photo and my actual mini PCI Express slot but mine is backwards! Do I have something else and not really a mini PCI Express slot?

Can you show us the photos? Also, if you could provide the make and model of your motherboard, that would really help.

After hours of digging I found this look at the small sideways outwards facing device on the top of the picture above and to the right of the wires above the fan at the edge of the board What I find is strange it's backwards. the pin number is wrong. and the notch is too far to one side.
Is this something completely different than a Mini PCI Express slot?

I've hunted through tons of pictures and the closest match is the Mini PCI Express.

That could be an 35mm Express Card connector, like they use in some laptops. My old Toshiba had one, but I never saw it from that angle, so I can't be 100% sure.

Any idea why its backwards and at such a weird place? Do I have to take the case off and put it on backwards in order to use it? Why would they do something so silly? and I see solder points for a PCI X1 slot. What a downer! I could of easily upgraded to a decent graphics card with it! but they had to be cheap and lazy and not solder one on. What more would it cost? 5$?
