Bulding a new PC - from scratch

    Hello,

I'm planning to build my self a new PC and would like to hear your opinion about it.

Case ZALMAN Z12 Plus, ATX, USB3.0 Black - link
PSU FORTRON RAIDER 750 SILVER, 750W - link
    Motherboard ASROCK Fatal1ty B85 Killer, B85, DDR III 1600/1333/1066 - link
    CPU INTEL CORE i5-4460, 3.20GHz, 6MB, BOX, LGA1150, Haswell Refresh - link
CPU Cooler COOLER MASTER Hyper 412S, s.All CPU, 1300 rpm, 22.5 dB - link
    GPU GIGABYTE 2048M GTX750 N750OC-2GL DDR5 PCI-E 3.0 - link
GPU Cooler VGA Cooler Accelero Twin Turbo III - link
RAM KINGSTON 4GB DDR III 1600 HyperX FURY - link
SSD CORSAIR 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk SSD, SATA III, Force LX, 7mm - link

It's going to be used as a regular PC - nothing special, apart from running from time to time some of the .NET technologies (for testing purposes) - ASP.NET MVC, SQL Server 2014, Visual Studio 2012/3.. and playing Dota 2.

    Edit: changed the PSU.

I`d go with a 4690K, and get a video card with at least 4 GB of memory, something in the 900 series, not the 700 series.

Hm.. I really don't think I'll need that powerful card, it's a bit expensive.. what do you have in mind?

    Hi,
I believe Samsung still has some great deals on 850 evo ssd's

Here's a great deal on a liquid cpu cooler,

I was thinking to skip the coolers for now (and get them later, eventually if needed) and get a better SSD (maybe the 250 GB Evo?). I suppose there isn't a difference between the quality of the 120/250 gb versions?

Larger SSDs tend to have better benchmarks, but you'd never notice the difference in actual usage.

    Buy the capacity you need.

I personally load of course the os but also all programs on the same ssd everything just works better
Games on the other hand can be on a separate ssd or hdd for that matter so I've read
120gb sounds like a lot but in reality it goes pretty quickly plus windows shows it as much less than 128gb more like 117gb
250/ 256gb is a realistic size with growing room to spare.
99.us is cheap for a 850 pro evo

Typically I load windows then shrink it in half
That way I don't end up with a system reserved partition to deal with and the ssd space is half of 256gb actually half of 240gb

I do like the liquid cpu coolers corsair has :)

I'm starting a new build for my son. So comments on a couple of components that I'm looking at:
    - i5 4590 which performs so close to the i5 4690 (do you really need to overclock the CPU?)
    - CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212x (make sure it fits the case)
    - RAM GSkill RipjawsX 16GB. Check your RAM has been tested with your motherboard. I'd consider 8GB a minimum.
    - SSD probably Samsung 850 EVO 250G - but then I'd partition it in 2. You want to keep your OS partition to a size that allows efficient system imaging. I think the 850 EVO 120G would be ok if you wanted to save some money.
