Case Fan Noise: WHINE
I got a pretty good PC (tower) from a friend and I want to make it my main pc.
When I got it the case fans were incredibly loud so I got a couple $10 coolermaster case fans.
I bought 2 because it had 2. Seemed like overkill but it's a got a big ol' ATI radeon video card so I fig'd the more air the better. Only 10 bux for the fans...I swapped them.
Note: coolermaster case. I don't know the model but I believe it's made of lead or poured concrete Seems like a good case. Tons of connections in back and on top.
The coolermasters were decently quiet but they WHINED. Power up and rrrrrRRRRRRRRRR and then a constant whine. Not so bad w/1 fan powered up but enough to drive me batty.
Took them back and got a Nocturna NF-F12 which was double the price. I fig'd the coolermasters were cheap and I got crappy ones.
I installed the Noc using the rubber stand offs and I'm getting that incredibly annoying whine. I have looked around some online but I can't find much on this. This is not my first PC and I've never experienced anything like this. I will say that the side of the case that holds that is sort of bendable and will pop in and then pop out depending on where you put pressure. But it doesn't matter which way you push it....the fan still whines. The fan itself is relatively quiet.
I read somewhere (newegg reviews????) that this fan is not meant as a case fan but is meant for a cooler???? I can't remember exactly. Don't know if it matters as i'm not doing anything extreme with this machine. I just want air to move. Quietly. This PC is unusable to me now.
