    Overclocking Phenom II X6 1090T

    Hey guys.

Could someone with experience in overclocking an AMD Phenom II X6 CPU help me achieve a target overclock of 4.2GHz - 4.4GHz please? I have a video uploading of my attempt to which failed miserably with a BSOD when I got into Windows and opened up HWInfo/HWMonitor and CPU-Z. :/

    Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+
    CPU: Phenom II X6 1090T
^ Highest ever OC I achieved: 4.45GHz. (couple years ago) on liquid cooling.
    RAM: 14GB

    Thank you. :)

That article didn't really help with correct voltages for 4.2/4.4GHz.

That's because there is no correct voltage. Every CPU is different, and what works for one will not work for another. You need to use the minimum voltage you can use for a stable overclock, without going over the maximum rating of the chip.

Start low, and go up in baby steps until you become stable at your chosen speed. That's the only way to do it properly. And watch your temps carefully as you go.

    EDIT:

Here's some valuable data about your CPU:

    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition - HDT90ZFBK6DGR / HDT90ZFBGRBOX

Note that the max Vcore is 1.475V

First off you need to start using LLC Load Line Calibration that will keep you from going to high on the Vcore also Phenom chips if i recall don't need much of a voltage jump they are capable of upclocking on stock voltage i had a 925E and a 965BE that both could upclock without voltage changes

I would put LLC to atleast medium settings drop the volts to 1.42.00 turn turbo off because it does you no good at they high of speed the ram has to be droped in order to bring the multi up to get your target but i did recall seeing a Video where they got a max of 4.2 Ghz

I shouldn't have to tell you that 14GB of memory might very well be the problem AMD isn't like Intel and from here if you are running 14GB's of ram it's running in Single channel not Dual channel so there it may be the wall that you hit take out that 6GB run it with 8gb you might achieve better results

I don't know what area you are in but i do know that you probably got the best OC that chip can provide so if you want something to achieve a little better you need to look at the Vishera chips or the 6 Core FX you can upclock to damn near 5ghz on air

Hope this helps because even with a Crosshair board you are having troubles getting higher clocks meaning you hit the chip wall or it has degraded from previous use at higher clocks remember these are like 6-7 year old chips think it's time to step up ole girl has done her thing for a long time now boss

Also sorry for the mixed up reply i kept going over you situation to see what else i could find and mixed in replys where i thought they would fit

Thanks for your response, Solar! I will try the overclocking again later today and get back with results! :)

I have also given +rep to you for this post. Thanks.

Looks like max oc is 4.2 Ghz i think you should look into one of these AMD FX 6300 Black Edition 3.5GHz Six-Core Socket AM3+ Boxed Processor FD6300WMHKBOX - Micro Center
