Skylake is the last Intel CPU that will support Win 7 (and that is only because Skylake users raised a ruction when MS decided to eventually drop support for Win 7 after many had already bought Skylake systems). Ryzen was also going to fully support Win 7 but AMD "mysteriously" changed their mind.

Yes Jeannie it stinks of skulduggery behind closed corporate doors and again I think (not assume) that it is all money driven by M$ and the manufacturers of such components.

Another option to consider. A true 6 core. I use one with Windows 7 Pro/64 @ 4.3 with no problems.

Ok Jack I shall have to check out the prices out here as Newegg do have a site now but some products have the be shipped from the US which of course adds a fair bit to the price

Whether you get Intel or AMD is has to be shipped in. I think.
Australia has very high tariffs from my understanding on everything, except on kangaroo toe jam.

Yep the powers that be out here are very pedantic about getting their slice of the "action" and a good example is what I saw in the duty free when I went to the UK last yaer and the prices were actually the same or even more expensive than what you can buy retail in the shpos otu here. To give you an idea a large jar of Vegemite (a very popular spread) sold in the regular shops retails at about $5-6 and in duty free the same size jar - $19!!

    Work that one out

I went with the R1700 as it was affordable here at my local retailer's outlet. Using a beginner's B350 mobo now. Did a clean install of Win 10. But there are issues with power profiles (I'm using performance profile for now, not balanced), also issues with HPET...I didn't touch that one yet.
