New build starts to power on, then shuts down...

So, pretty much all I did was take the hardware in my specs and move it to another case. Now, it will power on, start up the CPU fan, spin the hard drive and CD Rom and then power off. I've checked the PSU and that's not the issue, I've tested almost all of the components except for the CPU. Any ideas?

have you checked the mobo standoffs, if just one is out of place it'll short the board..??

Yeah, I'm thinking that's what happened. Oh well, it was about time to get a new mobo anyway. Thanks Skunksmash.

Double-check the CPU cooler is fully clamped down onto the processor die... it could be a thermal shutdown because something isn't snugly connecting and is causing the CPU to overheat within a few seconds of powering up...

if it is the standoffs the board will be ok once you reposition them, motherboards have their own fail-safe to prevent damage hence the shutdown..

just have a check when you get a minute....
