OCZ wouldn't be my first choice, but these prices might induce me:

OCZ OCZSSD2-1VTXPL120G Vertex Plus 2.5 Solid State Drive - 120GB, SATA II at TigerDirect.com

    OCZ OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G Vertex 2 Solid State Drive - 60GB, 2.5, SATA II at TigerDirect.com

The reason that I said that OCZ is not my first choice, is because twice previously, when having applied for MIRs, I never received anything from OCZ, and unfortunately, these prices do include MIRs.

The 120GB is really cheap. But there was one OCZ series that had a lot of problems. I hope it is not that one. You better explore that beforehand.

That fact, plus my experience with their MIRs doesn't really give me the enthusiasm to do much digging. I will probably wait for a deal on a different brand.

I never had a problem with MIR - and we had a lot.

I assume that you are talking about OCZ MIRs and not just in general? I seem to remember that the MIRs that I had which failed were administered thru Newegg, so it is possible that OCZ was not the culprit.

the MIR's you are referring to were administered through OCZ. I spent several hours on the phone with OCZ about them and the emails were from them. But, if you do in fact get the rebate, it will be 3 months down the road.

Are you saying "were" or "are"? The 3 month delay is expected, but I'm speaking of something in the far more distant past than that.

I'm saying were. I don't know what they are doing now. My experience was a little over a year ago.

My experience predates that quite a bit, because I haven't dealt with Newegg for quite some time. If you had to spend several hours on the phone with OCZ, it sounds as though it didn't go as smoothly for you as it should have?

It certainly didn't. And to compound that, I had to RMA it during the process. But, honestly, my opinion of all MIR's is that the companies offer them to get you to buy and then try to find a reason not to pay it. So, I never buy anything based on an MIR. If I would buy it at the price quoted, I buy it. If I get the rebate that's extra. Maybe I have a black cloud over my head, but I've always had trouble with MIRs. That one was no different.
