There must be a problem with this EVO - everybody is offering it like sour beer.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw all the price drops on it this morning. They must know something which will not be let out of the bag too soon.
I'm going to hold out for the Pro-256 GB.

Wolfgang, great find on the Intel SSD, it only comes to a total of $119.82 for me

It`s not a Samsung, but if you recommend it, well....... need I say more

I would not get too excited about Samsung. They have good products but nothing really exceptional. Intel has been around the longest with SSDs. They have always been more expensive than the rest. But this one has a good price - I think.

Right now I would not buy OCZ for the obvious reasons (although I have 3) or Sandisk - they have terrible reviews. One make that is hardly known in SSD circles is Mushkin. I have one since over 1 year and that performs beautifully. I just ordered anothe 240GB Mushkin for $138. I hope it is as good as my small one - at least the specs are excellent.

I don`t know, my OCZ Vertex 4 is performing great, I just want something larger to do my next clean install on.

I just checked the Mushkins @ NewEgg. But they are up in price again. So the Intel is probably a good deal.

My OCZs work well too. But if you buy one now and have a problem, you might not get any service. They were bartering the OCZ 128GB Sata III for $49.99.

The OCZ Vertex 3 which is going on 7 months of use has always seemed slow to me for some reason.
To me the HDD (Hitachi) from my HP machine was faster. The OCZ forums were not much help, they only suggested updating the firmware but with a very high risk of killing the drive. So I have passed on doing it and not willing to take a chance.

I have also been watching the Intel's but as you say the prices are higher than most other brands.

If your Vertex 3 does not perform, there must be a reason. I have one in a Toshiba laptop and it is very fast. Did you check the alignment. And if it is in a desktop, your bootmgr could be sitting on a HDD.

Yes, I did the alignment and it was good when I put this machine together, also the bootmgr is not on a HDD as they were both formatted before their current uses.

How long does it take to boot the system (to get an idea how bad it is). You find the exact time in Event 100 of Event Viewer when you drill down this chain:

    Windows
