I was looking at the specs on that AMD. Mercy, I think I could heat my barn with that thing. :)
That is why I said Northern States where winter lasts 9 months, it'll heat your home like a plasma TV.

I am curious as to why AMD is going in that direction. The focus recently has been towards more energy efficient processors.

My guess would be that this is the only way to beef up a 32nm CPU. AMD does not seem to use 22nm or 18nm yet.

Apparently as has been proven by overclockers here on Seven Forums a regular 4Ghz FX 8350 can get to5Ghz with the correct fiddling (black magic art over clocking, too much trouble for me) cooling, patience and over clocking skills. These were really expensive and I scoffed at them when they came out. They are now on sale at regular money but I just purchased an FX-8350 4Ghz part with "normal for AMD" power consumption. The "super" chips only have a 1 year warrany and no doubt put a tremendous load on the motherboard and power supply for what? A few extra Mhz and a tremendous amount of heat. They are a waste of money IMHO but there will always be someone who wants the fastest same as the Intel guys who have to have the $1.2 K CPU. It is human nature.

You are absolutely right. A normal user does not need that power. Even my very standard i7 is hardly ever used to more than 30% and half of my cores are 'parked' most of the time - as to Resource Monitor. The only times I use more CPU power is with video encoding - and even then it depends on the program. I doubt that there are many programs that use 8 cores.

Where you need real muscle is in mathematical modelling or for matrix inversions. But then you need floating point. That's a job for the big boxes.

A HP refurbished PC with keyboard and mouse running Windows 8 Professional for $115 wit Promaa Code EMCYTZT4964. That is really a good deal for someone who wants a little PC considering that the Windows 7 OEM license would already cost more.

That's a pretty good deal. I have a Crucial in this machine - works very well.
