I was wondering how this compares to the Samsung EVO ?

I have an older Crucial M4 and that works very well.

The Samsung EVO "feels" a little faster, especially with Rapid Mode on and is faster than an M4 I have, in performance.

Is the EVO worth the extra $ compared to the M500 ?

Probably not - but that must be your call. I have seen some very cheap EVOs recently. Shop around.

No, I don't want to go really cheap. This will be going into my new Lenovo laptop which has a 5400 rpm HDD and is like molasses.
The EVO's I've seen have been holding to $150.- $160. range. The M500 was interesting at $120.
