Oh yeah, it'll still be better. It's a pretty good laptop on it's own, although, if you can afford it, I would go for an i5

Overclocking a laptop is possible, but not really advisable.

If you are after better game performance, choose a laptop with the best dedicated GPU you can afford.

If you get an I5 or even I7 in a laptop, make sure that there is proper cooling. Those powerful processors can run damn hot - and overclocking would not help the cause. It's not like in a desktop where you can easily improve the cooling.

^ yeah. With the stock cooler, i5's hit 70c.

I have my BCLK set to 160 with Turbo on. At the default multiplier of 20~ 160 x 20 = 3.2 GHz. It will step up to 21 x 160 =3.36GHz when 3 or 4 cores are being used, and 24 x 160 = 3.84GHz when only 1 or 2 cores are used. It still throttles down at idle, and all power saving features are on. I don't game so I don't need a full time overclock. With my settings I get a decent increase, "on demand" overclocks, and very little power consumption hit. Works good for me. A Guy

Yep. Imho, Turbo Boost is the greatest thing since sliced bread. :)

Even at stock clocks, because i5's are virtually identical to 1366 i7's, the exception being hyper-threading, which games don't use, the i5 posts some impressive numbers.
Intel Core i7-975 EE and Core i5-750 in Contemporary Games - X-bit labs Increasing clock speeds is sufficient to bring these numbers in line.

Btw, excellent choice in board my good man!

We need a mod to change the title of this thread to, "three guys with amazingly good taste!" ... btw, I like your case too.

lol can someone change it to 'three guys with amazing taste' by chance?
lol ( being left out of the amazing taste part ...)
    - Do you think the laptop that I posted a link for can be upgraded in the future to an i5? ( or i7, and i9 if they ever make that for laptops...) Laptops usually don't upgrade very well ( or at all...)
