    August 10 updates from MS???

I downloaded and installed all the new updates out today, but when I rebooted, my computer opened up to a new desktop, and I could not get to my old files etc. Thankfully I had a restore point from this afternoon, restored to that point, and all is well. Is there some problem with some of these updates anyone knows about??
    Thanks,
    Bill

Usually the problem is not with the updates, but the method of update. When there are many and some require a restart, this causes a conflict. Dowload a few at a time. Set update to notify.

    Rich,
I downloaded all of them at once and waited/told me to restart/it continued to download at restart/restarted fine with no problems.
It maybe the OP had a different default browser than IE8? Just a thought!

The problem is not consistent. It is suppose to work all the time, but it does not, unfortunately.

    richc46,

Your were spot on with your suggestion. I downloaded and installed the first nine, then restarted, and downloaded the rest and restarted, and all is perfect.

I do believe system restore is one of the best features invented :)

    Thanks,

Bill, we are in full agreement.

I just did mine, 3 at a time. Takes time, but my computer works great.

Thanks for the kind words and rep. Come back any time and bring your friends.
