Another problem, so much protection causes conflicts. Something is running in the background and it looks like security.

    Use only
    Malwarebytes
    Security Essentials
    Windows firewall

You can damage the HD, too, with that protection, it slows things up, too much.

Ok thanks. I'll finish the scans with just those two, see if anything turns up, and restart and see how it goes.

Still no luck. What's odd is that right after boot, its around 25%. But in like 10 minutes or so, its RAM usage rapidly climbs to 40-50%.

Do you mean that they were running in the background and eating up RAM? And I have AVG, MS Essentials, Spybot, and Ad-aware installed. And now Malware bytes. But I'm pretty sure I've configured them all to never run in the background....
They can't ALL be not running, then you will have no protection.

I am not there, but I can only know what you tell me. If it were my machine, slow or not, I would take some of that stuff off

You just need a firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Malwarebytes.

    103 processes
11 instances of Chrome, and 1 Firefox.. thats showing

This will sound silly but .. Have you tried closing some these multiple programs that are running?

I would turn the PF back on. You still need a PF, regardless how much RAM you have installed.

It does whether I have those applications open or not. And I've had no paging file for over a year now, and it only started consuming RAM like crazy in the last month or so.

    Bingo

Its so easy we missed it. Its a percentage, you are not using more ram, a ram stick or slot is bad. Test with memtest86, run for 6 passes. Take a good stick and test each slot.

Actually, Windows seems to have changed its caching behavior. After about a half day, it finally caches everything it wants to such that there's hardly any memory thats "free." My memory is back down to normal by that point. My computer used to cache its stuff faster, I guess.

    Thanks for your help.
