Pagefile - can I relocate this?
Is it possible for me to relocate where my pagefile is located? I have a 2 gig partition that seems to be doing nothing, can it be directed there?

You can, but it is probably not worth it. Have a look into the Resource Monitor > Memory tab how many hard faults it shows (little graph on the side). If they are close to zero, then your page file is not at all or hardly used.

As whs said, it may not be of any benefit.
Also, moving the PF will not be of any benefit at all, if moved to another partition on the same physical HD. It can actually hurt overall performance when the PF is needed.
It really should be on a seperate physical drive if you're going to move it.
However, how to it:
From the Start Button, right click MY COMPUTER and choose Properties.
Click Advanced System Settings
Then Click the "SETTINGS" button in the Advanced Tab.
Click Advanced tab in the new window that pops up.
In Virtual memory section, click CHANGE.
You can now assign which HD have a PF, and Which ones do Not.

ok thanks...the reason why i asked is because the page file i think is currently on the C Drive which is wildly causing the C memory storage to go up and down and I dont have much memory on that drive, there is like 600MB left.
The machine, which has a dual boot, also has an empty 2 gig partition, (which originally was a swap partition for the linux but it doesnt really need it since I only use linux for small tasks) - cant i reformat this to NTFS and wont that alleviate my page file issues on the C Drive?
I could go ahead and do it but I am just after your recommendation and advice, (I am slightly worried that I will upset the settings of the drives since the laptop is my life!! That being said I will make a copy and then experiment based upon comments from this forum)

How about deleting the hiberfile on your C drive to gain a few GBs (provided you do not use hibernation). That would be the easiest to make a little room. The command in elevated Command Prompt (open as admin) is
powercfg.exe -h off
Another option would be to add the 2GB partition's space to your C partition. if you want to do that, post a snip of your Disk Management and we'll see how to do that best.

hi all
i tried to move the page file to external drive but because the drive was only recognised after login not bootup it did not work and windows corrected the error and put page file:) back on c drive.

I would never recommend an external drive for the pagefile. Generally external drives are slower than internal ones so therefore you are getting reduced performance.

What you should do instead is resize your system partition, making it 30-40 GB larger, which would require booting into a disk utility like gparted. It can't be done while the HDD is being used to boot the system.

that's good advice. Getting rid of hiberfile.sys will free up at least a GB of HDD space
