Direct Group Policy features as Registry values in Win7 Home Premium ?

Win7 Home Premium does NOT contain the well known GroupPolicy Editor. This is a feature only in Win7 Pro and above.

What is exactly meant by "Group Policy Editor": The tool "gpedit.msc" (from former WinXP) or the group policy features itself?

If only the tool is meant then the Home Premium user could enter the function manually in registry (as in WinXP). Is this possible?

gpedit.msc is the Group Policy editor. However, if you want to find a setting that you can normally edit with gpedit, and you have access to a Win7 machine *with* gpedit, you have two options:

    1. You can look at the .admx files in %windir%\PolicyDefinitions\ and the corresponding .adml files in %windir%\PolicyDefinitions\<language>\ to get the keys/values that correspond to the actual group policy settings - the .admx files contain the actual registry settings that a policy would set, and the .adml files contain the text that you see in the group policy editor for a policy. So, find the text of a policy setting you want to set in one of the .adml files (you will have to search), and you will see that there is a "string id" associated with it - search for that string id in the .admx file of the same name, and you'll find the reg value and key to set the policy manually .

    2. If you're lazy like me, you can find a lot (not all, but a lot) of these here:

Again, not all are listed here, so you may need to resort to #1 if you cannot find the policy you want to configure via #2.
