Built in defrag was from diskeeper until XP - Vista+ no longer uses diskeeper engine.

I tried most of the well known defragmentation and optimization programs and I discovered that they can work in surprisingly different ways. I finally settled on MyDefrag (formerly JK Defrag) both because it offers over a dozen different scripts to use including the unique option of being able to write your own script and because it was the only defragmentation and optimization that I ever used which could cut a full 30 seconds off of my computer's boot time when I was using Vista.

Well I do not rely on the scheduled defrag, I always defrag it using a third party tool called Smart Defrag whenever I feel like doing a maintenance task and after I'm finished with disk cleanup with CCleaner.

The main aspects I rarely use Windows own defrag tool is that, in Windows 7, you don't see this simulated background that shows you the progress though it does show the percent and simply because its slower at times than third party tools.

I am using perfectdisk 10 but it is always moving files about when using smartplacement.
And I see no real benefit to this smartplacement.
The answer to your question is: YES.

I use state-of-the-art free CCleaner followed by Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers monthly on my installs with no issues at all and instantaneous performance on all.

How do you know your performance is because of those?

I don't. I just like using the free tools which are widely considered the best in their class.

RAM Defrag tool
Does anyone know of a RAM defrag tool that works in windows 7? yes I'm aware that an actual defrag of RAM does not improve access performance and that rebooting will clear the RAM, etc etc. I want it because usually a ram defrag can recover unused memory. or if someone knows an alternate...

Does Puran Defrag 7.3 Free work with Windows 7 Defrag disabled ?
I normally set the Disk Defragmenter Task Schedule to DISABLED, and leave the Windows Disk Defragmenter defragsvc set to DISABLED. Will Puran Free be able to safely and fully operate under these conditions, or should I change defragsvc to MANUAL. I occasionally create a Macrium FULL image...

Windows Disk Defrag Doesn't Defrag
Disk defrag stops analyzing at 62% and doesn't go any further. So I downloaded Defraggler and ran it. It worked but it wouldn't defrag down to 0% fragmentation, It still shows 4% after defrag.

Does Windows Defrag defrag system files?
Hi all. Stupid question here... A friend of mine was speaking highly about this PerfectDisk prog because "it defrags system files." I was kind of surprised because I thought (assumed) that the defrag utility built into Windows 7 already defragged system files. Is this not true? I do not...

Any verdict on the Defrag tool yet?
Vistas sucked majorly, were there any improvements in 7 or should I be hunting down JKDefrag again?
