Need advice on using DVD install desk for System Install

Need to restore my W7 Pro system to a restore point I created on 9/20/2010. When attempting within Windows I get the error message attacked (sysrestore.jpg).

I have a Win SystemBackup/Restore from my 9/20/2010 weekly backup as in restore.jpg attached.

Bill2 helped me with trying to simply restore my Registry in How can I replace my W7 registry file without using regedit ? ... but that didn't seem to help/work ? Tried the path regedit /s O: NoHP-9-20.reg from restore on the install disk but don't think anything happened.

Using the tutorial Biil2 provided...I would like to try a complete system restore via the Install Disk. However...before I start I'm unsure of what path to indicate for the system restore to go to when restoring. As shown in restore.jpg my Backup/System Image is on my external USB HD in the N: partition.

When System Restore asks where the restore point is...what do I enter as the path ?? ie; N: HOME_DESKTOP or N:WindowsImageBackup or N: System Volume Information or just N: etc on my USB N: drive shown in restore.jpg

    Thanks...TR

    Hello trinaz.

If I understand you correctly, I don't believe what you are proposing is possible as the 2 (SR and image backup) are not connected as you feel they may be; if the restore point you want to use is not viable then you may be sol.

I will be watching to see if someone has another opinion as I'm curious also.

I believe after reading both of your threads that you now need a Repair Install

VSS seems damaged by whatever you did to the Registry, which will be reinstalled along with OS - reimporting only keys within User Profile appdata that are uncorrupted.

Thanks so much gregrocker...repair went very smooth and I'm in process of checking data files and programs. Only errors so far is at start up I get the attached error pop-up windows.

Also my 3rd party Firewall (Bit defender) won't startup and there is no windows.old folder on my C: drives the tutorial states...the other 2 are there tho ?

Do you have a suggestion on how to fix/repair this ?

You may need to make a robo-call to MS to reactivate.

    Activate Windows 7 by Phone

Reinstall your Product Key at Computer>Properties activation link.

Uninstall Bit Defender and install lightweight free MS Security Essentials.
