    svchost (secsvcs) 100% CP usage

Every time I use it, my PC hits 100% CP usage at some stage (with pathetic squeaks from the PSU). This is always attributable to svchost (secsvcs): if I stop this process the usage returns to 1 or 2% and the problem goes away until I next start up. Is there anyway to prevent this particular process from starting? My PC is adequately protected from virus and spyware anyway, which is what this process does.

What is the full name of secscvs?

Thanks for your reply, which was helpful.
Unfortunately, in services all the applications are given their full names and I have not yet been able to track down secsvcs, which seems to be the underlying culprit.
Do you know the full name of secsvcs, please? Or where I can discover it? Then I could disable it.
    Cheers

Secsvcs should be Windows Defender (or at least one of them), Windows Update is related with netsvcs.

See the 2nd post in this thread: svchost.exe always running at 50% cpu.. heating up the laptop. end - Microsoft Community by Gary Cornell. He describes how to setup Process Explorer so you can get more useful information from it. See if that helps.
