Can't restart/shut down, can't open iTunes, folder issues

My biggest issue is I can't restart my machine which I think might be the source of the other problems. I've searched through various forums and one solution that seemed to help a lot of people involved the Device Manager and the IEEE1394 Bus host controller. When I go to my Device Manager in Control Panel under Hardware and Sound, there is no IEEE1394 Bus host controller so that doesn't help me.

When my computer shuts down, sometimes it brings up a screen saying I need to go back and do something, but it comes up for a split second and then my computer proceeds into 'Logging Off' which it stays on until I hold down the power button to shut it off.

Problem #2: iTunes won't start. I deleted, reinstalled a couple times and it still does nothing when I try to open it.

Problem #3. If I make a change to folders such as making a folder, renaming a folder, or moving files, the changes don't show until I have left the folder and reopened it.

I am not having a good time with Windows 7 so far! Thanks for the help!

Find the missing driver(s) on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer model or the device model. Your Bus controller must be installed.

Study repeat errors in Event Viewer>Admin View: google text/ID# to see how others resolved them. Check also Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking your WEI score link at Computer>Properties. Check for cued issues at top of Tools page, then Generate a System Health Report.

Test your RAM with memtest86 for 5-6 passes, then your HD using maker's full diag/repair CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities.

Type CMD in Start Search box, rightclick on result to Run as Admin then type in sfc /scannow to check System Files.

As a last resort before reinstall, try a Repair Install

So since I have a Dell, is this something I would check on the Dell website, or ...

This I don't really understand much at all. I can get to Event Viewer but I don't have any idea what to do with it from there. Sorry, I'm not as technical as most the people here I'm sure :/

Yes, Dell Support Downloads webpage. You'll need to download and install the full chipset as is sometimes the case. Any other drivers which are missing in Device Manager, too.

Expand Event Viewer to see Admin View, then google repeat errors. It will feel clumsy at first but this is how you gain confidence and knowledge and master troubleshooting.

Let us know anything else you need help with.
