Haha wow, i don't know what is more shocking people running it on these systems or the fact that they say it runs smoother than XP I remember when i was having second thoughts about getting a copy for my dads laptop, Celeron 1.4ish, 512mb (upgraded to 1.5), crappy intel GMA.

MS really hit a Home Run with 7.

Find out the Brand & Model of the motherboard & what type Ram it takes & how much Max Ram the MB will hold. Then check out where you can get more Ram at a good price. The CPU should be ok, HD could be a little larger or just add a second HD for storage.

How bout that oldest machine with full Aero tranparency along with thumb previews. I had to install a Geforce 6200 into my old P4 1.7GHz machine to get the Aero working. This machine is part of my Homegroup and all file sharing and streaming options work perfectly.

It was a fine line between full HD functionality and the power supply limitation of only 250watts. The 6200 only requires a 250watt power supply which is exactly what this old compaq has. My WEI score went from a 1.0 to 2.0 which allowed for full Aero functionality using the Geforce 96.85 drivers. After the driver install Windows update automatically installed the Nvidia control panel.

The Geforce 6200 was 45 bucks with free shipping from HongKong. The picture quality and movie playback improved dramatically also. Between Win 7 ultimate and the new 6200 this old machine has new life in it and it works very well for me as my new Garage computer. Doesn't everyone have a Garage computer?

    hi !

    W7 runs on a P2 with 266MHz CPU, 96MB RAM & 4Mb graphic card !

    i have done 3 tests: 2 successful...
    1. 128 MB RAM
    2. 96 MB ram

take a look at the screenshots...

on my third test with 64 MB i got some errormessages about "insufficient memory", then it rebooted...

i also have a P1 with 166Mhz CPU & 1MB Graphic card, without the powersupply-unit, as i have used it for some test on another PC.

if i can find the Powersupply-unit, i´m going to test the P1 tomorrow...
    YAY! great stuff mate :)

    thanks hybridfan.

however, those test were with W7-RC.
W7-Professional (RTM-version) for some reason needs 160 MB.

it might run on less, but i have no RAM´s to combine to get something between 128 & 160 MB.
