    dynamic disks

i have a 500gig primary hard drive for windows
2 320gig drives stripped ( using windows dynamic disks )
    1 1.5t drive spare

question, can i add part of the 1.5t drive into the raid ? and use the remaining 1.2t ( ish ) as a seperate disk ?

will i need to partition the 1.5t first or can it be done through windows disk mananger ?

Hmm... I don't think you can do that... RAID works at block level, meaning if you add the 1.5TB to the already stripped 2x320GB, then you'll be wasting the 1.2TB(-ish) and only use the 320GB off that 1.5TB disk... But Intel Matrix RAID can do that (IIRC)...

well it worked, it striped 1 volume across 3 drives ( 320g, 320g, 1.5t ) it did only use 320g of the 1.5t though, and then let me create a simple disk in the remain room on the 1.5t drive, now giving me
    c: 500gig ( boot/windows/program files )
    d: 1180gig ( of 1500gig, for storage and crap )
e: 960gig ( made of 2x 320gig and a 320gig partition of the 1500gig drive, just for stuff that doesnt load fast enough :)

Are we talking about RAID 0 (pure stripping at block level) or a contiguous spanning volume (which is just like a JBOD but without separate volumes)? Either way, if it works, then it's all good :)
