If it just hangs withous sleep, that will not be necessary

Try in clean boot. If it works well, follow the clean boot instructions.

In the meantime, you can also try the suggestions below to see if the issue can be resolved:

- If you plugged in any devices, such as a USB device, into the computer after you put it in hibernation, make sure that you unplug them before you resume the computer from hibernation. Then, plug in the device after the computer has successfully resumed from hibernation.

- Test in Clean Boot mode. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

And if you'd like to analyze your boot, download this free application- Soluto (Soluto).
It'll measure the boot time and will also list the apps which run at boot and how much time they took to execute.
It may or may not help regarding the hang issue but may be, it could narrow down the issue.

I did the clean boot and it was inconclusive. For the most part, the hibernation issue seems to have resolved itself, but it still takes a long time.

As for the hanging during sleep mode, I haven't tried a clean boot because I don't like the idea of taking out my battery that many times. (Taking out the battery is the only way to shut of my laptop when it goes into sleep mode.)

Thanks for the link. I've never heard of Soluto before, and I must say, I'm impressed. Though, I tend to open it after I turn on my computer and I notice that my boot times are quite erratic. Disabling/pausing applications didn't really do much for my boot time.

Many tech enthusiasts reinstall every year to keep their OS running like new. In fact given the bloatware that comes on a new computer, a clean reinstall will make it run far better than new.

And with built=in drive imaging on Win7, once you reinstall and capture an image there is never a need to reinstall again - just reimage from saved image to HD in 15 minutes.

I've never re-installed Windows 7, although I'd like to in the not-too-distant future. The things that have stopped me are: 1. my DVD drive is broken so I would need to go through the hassle of figuring out how to install via USB 2. I have quite a few files I would need to back up

Do the images take up as much space as I am currently using on my system? In which case, I don't know if I have anything big enough to store it on. Forgive me, I don't know much about making backup images.


*edit* Oh, I forgot to mention, but I received another message today upon booting up my computer that said, "Operating system not found." I rebooted and all was well, but is this a sign of hard disk failure?
