The quick launch menu takes 2 -3 minutes to populate - anyone any suggestions?
Mine takes a few seconds to populate when I first boot up. But I do have like 23 shortcuts there.
The only thing I can think of is too a icon cache rebuild
Icon Cache - Rebuild
or too disable it, reboot, then enable it again and see if any difference.
It wouldn't hurt to temporarily remove the internet shortcuts from quicklaunch and see if it makes a difference. I think I remember this contributing to the kind of slowdown being described.
What anti-virus software are you using? I just started having this problem with slow-populating icons after a recent Avast update and from googling it seems to happen with other anti-virus software as well. Test by disabling the AV and see if that helps. I've solved the problem by excluding the "\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\" folder from scanning during read-only access.
i have the same problem, but when i check the dead links for shortcuts and whola it works fast
I was having this problem as well with the Quick Launch Tool Bar (as well it would just Disappear every once in a while - but that is another story). So I decided to try Using the "Links" Tool bar instead.
This solved the "Disappearing" problem I was having, but I am getting the same 'Slow to populate' problem with it as is being described here with the Quick Launch Toolbar.
It sounds to me like it is not a "Toolbar" problem; rather it seems to be something else.
By the way, once it populates the first time, the next time I click it (and every time after that) it comes up instantly. Seems a little strange - anyone have anything further on this?
