Thumbnail Indexing

Hi!

Is there any way to automatically index ALL pictures on my hard drives, so next time I enter to a folder it shows thumbnails quickly?
I made it manually but if there is a lot of images, some of the older thumbnails get automatically deleted...

Thanks for reading!

Hi FX23 welcome to SF!

The problem, as I see it, is not so much that pictures haven't been indexed yet but that the thumbnail cache has been deleted by windows itself (in order to re-generate it). For that there is a "quick and dirty hotfix":
You need to deny the system the right to delete the folder and the cache file.

This does appear to be the only way of solving this issue - there are downsides to it though, any deny permission especially to the system account may result in unpredictable results.

Please use this method with caution.

Barman is right! If you find your system behave strange after that change, remember to revert the rights to its original state.

First of all thank you SledgeDG and Barman58 for answering.
I tryed doing this, and I started caching thumbnails, but it seems that when I reach 20.000 images, it doesn't "remember" the older thumbnails...
The Explorer folder (\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows) is taking 471MB, I don't care if it takes 10GB but I want to cache all my images (aproximatelly 120.000)

I have read that 20 000 is the limit for the cache but cannot find anything from Microsoft themselves,

The actual information on the net is related to Windows Live Photo Gallery which shares the same thumbnail cache.

It may be that the only way forward for your collection of 120 000 images you will need to look at a third party image management application, free options such as picasa and irfanview may be able to handle large quantities but you may even need a professional option

I have a CD with some 200 jpg's, and when I put it into my W7x64 comp, sometimes files open very slowly. It seems like W7 or Explorer thinks it must do some job before letting the real app (IrfanView in this case) open the file. See here: http://i.imgur.com/swuS6AY.gif When I double click...
