Make sure you get one that is compatible with VSS if you use System Restore.

I think the windows one is the best, but the only other one I have tried is Diskeeper

Hi cheewongken, I am not a computer guru by any means. I have always used the defragmenter that came with Windows until recently. I tried defraggler and it was ok. I then tried the Auslogics disk defrag and to me, it made my laptop run smoother and quicker. I don't have any timers to prove any kind of speed increase, I'm just going by the feel of my machine. I am not a TV watcher, so my spare time is spent on my computers, and I tend to notice any kind of changes to my machines. At this point, I believe you are using the best free one on the market. Have a great day !!!

I have used Vopt for 10+ years, It is not free but you can try it for a short time without being crippled.
vopt.com is their web site and they have versions for most any windows version.
goldenbow software is the author and they do a good job.

I don't have any financial interest, just like their software,

    Hi cheewongken... :)

For the "Free" defragger's I have tried and tested Defraggler, Auslogic Disk Defragger, and Smart Defrag (Just to name a few). The best, IMHO, is the free "Smart Defrag" form Iobit. I have used it on my WinXP, WinVista, and Win7 PC's and Laptop's...works good.

I prefer to use the built in defrag in Windows 7. For previous versions, I use/recommend Auslogics Disk Defrag.

I also use Auslogic. But have Puran Defrag for it's boot defrag capabilities, and also have but rarely use My Defrag, and the Power Defragmenter GUI for Contig. A Guy

^ is what I prefer. Has all the bells and whistles and great performance: defrags quickly and quietly in the background without trouble. The latest version also has fragmentation prevention features. Much better than the windows default IMHO.
