    Sync software

    Hi,

I am on windows seven ultimate x64 and I am looking for sync folder software.

I did try to use SyncToy 2.1 but after an system crash while replication files, I am looking for good replication software.

The idea is to get an external usb drive updated with all data stored on my pc.

I am thinking of ROBOCOPY but I don't know if this will work on SEVEN 64 or even good tips to use it if it can work of course.

I am looking for robust and free software. Thanks.

Thanks in advanced for your help and comment.

    Hello Dinesh,

Does LiveMesh 2011 can replicate anything (photos, Videos, Docs, etc.) from PC to USB drive ?

Does liveMesh 2011 is the new SynToy from Microsoft ? I lost a lot of files due to the SynToy crah so I really want to use a soft that will do exactly what I need and be confident with.

My usb drive must be the exact replication of the PC content.

    Thanks for your help ?

If you want an exact replica then you need imaging software like Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect Free or use the Backup that is built into Windows 7.

If you only want to replicate specific user files (pics, docs, mp3, etc.) then a program called Mirror Folder ($39) will do this. It's what I use. There are other programs available as well but I've been using MF for quite a few years now and am very happy with it.

SyncToy or Windows Live Mesh should also work well. I'm not sure what problem you had with SyncToy but I used that for a few months when I first got Win 7 and it worked well for me.

    Dear Ztruker,

    Thanks for your reply.

I am using Norton GHOST 15 to save Folders and Personnal Data's, but incremental recovery point of recent changes is not as flexible as can be a soft to replicate specific user files.

I had trouble with SyncToy. While installing, synctoy hangup (not respond) and I had to install first Sync Framework 2.0 and then again Synctoy to make it work.

But somme issue right next tell's me to do not trust to much on it ! This is a personnal point of view of course.

I do not know, how exaclty SyncToy must be installed as there is no info why I have to install first Sync Framework 2.0, as SyncToy already get this on the package.

    Download details: SyncToy 2.1

If I may wrong, do not hesitate to tell me.

I will look at Mirror Folder anyway.

    Thanks

    Aswex

Free, easy and very quick: Karen's Replicator. I use it on my Win7 Ultimate 64 to sync my PC, laptop and Acer netbook. All my data is duplicated perfectly and I use a WD Passport drive to store and sync. You can even replicate file and folder deletions if you've decided to cull files on the drive. You can set it to only replace files if they're newer. I've been using it for years, have tried others, but still keep coming back. Even my techie friends use it.

Try 2Brightspark's SyncBack Freeware V3.2.26.0. Download from 2BrightSparks | Downloads. It has been the synchronising software of my choice.
