    Windows 7 Back Up

Is anyone using the built in Windows 7 Backup? I just started using Win 7 on my XP machine I was Using Norton Save and Restore 2.0 Which is not compatible with Win7 in fact I don't even think it's supported any longer.

Is the built in app any good? How will the built in backup work if you cannot even boot? OR what other backup programs are you using?

Norton, no thanks. The built in works well, but is not very flexible when restoring single files or folders. I use Acronis True Image Home, and it creates its own boot disk. It also can convert win 7 backups to Acronis, and Acronis to win 7 backups.

    Hasn't failed me yet.

A big +1 on the Acronis. I've been using it since v.7 with great success. I'm now using 2011. A word of advice, however: be sure to completely uninstall any previous or trial versions (including previous builds of the same version) before installing a new build or version. You'll save yourself much trouble.

The built-in imaging is a bigger challenge than e.g. free Macrium that I use. But it works if you want to spend the time to figure it out. https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...trategies.html

I use 2 imaging packages and more than one external backup HDD. For something so important I don't trust one package or backup device. I use the inbuilt Windows and Macrium Reflect (free).
Windows imaging has never let me down (YET) and it is my default. Enough (other) people have had problems with Windows imaging that I keep some Macrium images. Macrium is also more flexible in choosing partitions and appears very reliable.

I had some trouble trying to use the Windows backup program so I decided to try Macrium. It's free, it's very easy to use and I have read many good things about the program from users here.
