Problems using tools on Hirens boot CD

Not sure where this question belongs (performance & maintenance tool related to possible hardware/software issues)

With Hirens 12.0 and 11 I have had problems with mini XP recognising my Sata HDD and Sata DVD writer. Windows 7 has always tagged them as SCSI in device management and I've heard this is not uncommon. It has never affected any software or PC performance so I always ignored it. Except perhaps now.

It may be my problem with Hirens mini XP involves the W7 SCSI tag in device manager. Hirens DOS and linux tools see the sata devices fine (as of course does the BIOS).

Any ideas how I might get mini XP into recognising the sata devices?

I don't know about Mini XP etc but you CAN get a standard XP installation to recognize SATA etc devices etc- you need to SLIPSTREAM the drivers into an XP install disc with at LEAST SP2 applied -- preferably SP3. You can minimize the installation using nLite -- the tutorial will explain how to do it.

You can also create a Bartpe XP disc as well.

Thanks for the response. I "solved" the problem with a BIOS change which doesn't make complete sense to me.

I'm using an AMI BIOS. Under "Integrated Peripherals" settings I had
- Onboard Sata Controller [Enabled]
- Onboard Sata Mode [AHCI]
....
which is the way the computer came & is the default.
Windows has always seen the sata (HDD, DVD) as scsi.
When I change the onboard sata mode to [native IDE] windows sees the devices as ATA and Hirens bootCD, SeaTools now work.
Also, if anything the HDD speed has improved a bit.

I would have thought [AHCI] was the correct setting.
