    pagefile

i have 4gb of ram, in my pagefile settings, it has suggested i use 6150gb for the pagefile, i was leaving it to be system managed but read sometimes that it benefits the system to have a fixed point so set both min and max to 6200. is this worth doing or should i just let wondows manage it? 6200gb seems a lot with 4gb of ram?

    Hello!

    6200GB!

No way! 12GB would be considered massive! Are you sure that is not 6200MB. Then it would be a perfect size. I know Windows sets pagefile in thousands of MBs. That sounds a lot more realistic.

I set mine to a set size. Force of habit more than anything else. I use 1.5x as much RAM as I have. Although I realize this is unnecessary, hard drive space is so crazy cheap, that I simply don't care. So, with my 8GB of RAM at home, I use a 12GB page file on my spinner drive. If I really became pressed for space, and buying another hard drive was simply out of the question, I would immediately go after that page file and reduce the size of it.

i have read that if you have a large pagefile the system sometimes uses this in preference to ram? obviously i dont want that happening....

I've never experienced that. My page file is hardly touched at all.

Just leave it to the system to manage. There is nothing to be gained if you play around with it - one reason being (as pparks said) that it is hardly ever used with 4GB of RAM.
