    Task manager query.

    Good morning,

I have just started using Windows 7 on a new notebook. In the task manager there are eighty one processes running with all applications closed. On my old notebook running Windows XP Home there are forty three processes running.

Does eighty one processes running on Windows 7 seem a bit high? The OS is 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite L670.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Rob.

I have 80. Dunno if it's good or bad, but that's what it is. I should mention that I have Oracle VM VirtualBox running SUSE, mspaint and Firefox running.

Not unusual. I have 65 at idle. You may want to have a look in the startups (msconfig) and disable those that you do not absolutely need - in reality you really only need your AV program there and maybe some that you started yourself.

I have 49 on my desktop, 58 on my laptop. I wouldn't worry too much unless you start to get low on RAM. How much are you using?

Depending on what programs came pre-installed, some may be disabled to free up some memory if you're concerned. Be warned, that disabling some factory-installed software can affect your computer depending on what it does.

If you do want to disable anything, but not sure what, I'd post your Startup programs here for the experts to look at.
