I know W7 uses DirectX11. Do you update it ? If not why ?

I updated to the June 2010 release. I keep the latest full "redistributable" version on a thumb drive to use after a clean install.

Yes you update it - And actually, the newest release is Nov 30, 2010 -

5 - Update your Direct X files - Contrary to popular belief, just because Windows 7 is DX11 capable doesn’t mean it has the latest DX9 files!!! Most game issues can be fixed by simply updating the DX files.

There is a web installer dated Nov 30, 2010 but the last time I checked there was no redistributable to go with it? I believe it just installs the June 2010 release. As far as I can tell the only new feature of that release is the bing toolbar was added.

Well I won't lie and say I know what's included with it, I just note the date and assumed it had newer files. And now that you mention it, it is curious that the redistro isn't there as well.

Doesn't hurt to run both, just in case.

    Thanks.

Actually I think you're right - Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

Looking under "Addition Information" then "Related Resources" and the "Latest DirectX Redist" links to June 2010.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

I always download the latest redistributable and save it to a thumb drive. I like having the full installer to use after a clean install. When that came out and I couldn't find the matching full version I thought it was a bit strange. When I ran it and was asked to install the Bing toolbar I was thinking Microsoft has really sunk to a new low. I guess its just a pet peeve with me. I am just so tired of seeing that frickin Google toolbar bundled with just about everything. And now Microsoft is starting to do the same thing with its downloads?

I have to agree. And you're not the only one tired of seeing that effin Google Toolbar bundled with stuff as well. It's got to the point that I have to doublecheck my installs to make sure they didn't sneak it in on me
