How to improve CPU usage !!

    Hello,
My config is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, Intel i5 760, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 512 MB Graphics Card (Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS).

My CPU usage maximum is around 25-30%.
Whatever programs i run: antivirus scans, installations, initialization of programs like Netbeans, Oracle, etc.... the maximum CPU usage rarely goes above 30% !!

Only when I am using Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6, the CPU usage can go upto 100% where each of the 4 processors individually convert the video files.

How can I increase the CPU usage?....Will adding more RAM help?

Start more programs at the same time(music, converter, game, messenger, skype) and another big programs who are using the CPU. Maya,SolidWorks,AutoCAD ...

64 bit os and more ram will help run those intense programs, video conversion is very cpu and ram hogs

    Prime95 will stress your CPU.

I am curious... your system is reporting that it is efficient and you are dissatisfied?

    Hi Smarty,

Those programs don't need any more of your CPU : they are running as best they can. Just because your CPU usage is low, it doesn't mean your system is running poorly, in fact, its quite the opposite :)

I was using an older machine (Celeron) before this... and CPU utilization would be 100% for the programs mentioned above....so I thought performance can be improved by increasing CPU usage...

Anyway thanks for clearing the matter...
    Have a nice day :)

Imagine the situation which is similar to a battery and a battery driven device:

The battery doesn't pump power into the device but the device draws what it needs.
If you add more batteries, the device wouldn't operate faster (but longer).

Same with the CPU...each program requests as many CPU cycles it needs. You can't really force more CPU Power to a program to make it run faster. Video converters use a lot of power to begin with (imagine how many pixels have to be touched)
Xilisoft gives you the option to convert as many clips parallel as you have CPU cores.
The program is especially written to profit from more power which results in smaller conversion time.
