SyncToy and NAS Problems

Hi,

I've been thinking about experimenting with SyncToy to maintain an incremental backup of some data files. Having done a bit of reasearch, I found this:

Important NAS and SyncToy 2.0 Information

Please note that there are known issues when using SyncToy 2.0 with a Home NAS. When using a NAS, there is a chance of file corruption. We have found this to be the case across the board for all NAS configurations. We highly recommend that users avoid using SyncToy 1.x and 2.0 with NAS configurations.

This issue will be fixed in an upcoming release. Unfortunately there are no known workarounds for this issue with SyncToy 2.0 and previous builds.

This quite some time ago now, and I wonder if anyone is aware of whether this issue is being worked on or addressed? Or has SyncToy been abandoned?

Regards,
Golden

SyncToy

I am using SyncToy 2.1 Ver 2.1.0.0 10/19/2009 with Win 7 X64. I have no problems that I am aware of. I have checked some files that were created, moved or updated and found no corruption. I am running a home network created by Win7. (Not sure what NAS is exactly?)

Yeah, look into 2.1. I use it regularly but not on a NAS. But the release notes below state:

  • Fixed the data corruption issue when using SyncToy with NAS drives.

Sync Toy

Thanks for defining NAS. I gave up on Sync Toy. I just didn't like it for some reason. I dl'd the free copy of GoodSync It has a lot of features. I test driving it now.

SyncToy 2.1 works nicely with my NAS. I was a bit concerned because I didn't see a schedule option, but after reading the help, I see it can be scheduled using some command line parameters via Windows Task Scheduler.

SyncToy errors
Hi. I just installed SyncToy and used it for the first time. I have two hard drives on my computer (Windows 7) and used SyncToy on the 2nd hard drive (1 TB -602 GB used). I followed instructions that I printed out from here as best I could. Made several folders for backup and when through a lot...

SyncToy question
I have been using SyncToy in echo mode to update media files on a Synology NAS with the latest versions of those files on Windows. It has always worked flawlessly. I recently migrated to a new Windows machine. On the new machine, the data drive is D:\ rather than C:\. This breaks the existing...

Synctoy 2.1
I use Synctoy 2.1 to backup my files to an external hard drive. The ext. drive was initially given letter E and I have had no problems because whenever I plug it in (always the same usb slot) it is always given the letter E. Someone at Staples told me it would be safer to "echo" to a flash drive...

SyncToy causes 100% CPU usage and uses up all RAM
I am having big problems with SyncToy and I have been googling about it but nobody else seems to experience this problem. I am using Synctoy to make backups of my program folders and userfolder. It seems that Synctoy when it starts to overwrite or delete files needs a huge amount of RAM and CPU...
