Is it the same HDD with a fresh install over the old one or did you create a new partition on the same drive?
Same HDD, formatted drive and clean install
Well could have been but tried a new 500gig and all OK. thanks
I've had a somewhat similar issue. My HDD WEI in Vista Ultimate x64 and Windows 7 x86 was 5.1, in Windows 7 x64 it's 1.9...
Drivers...
Some "64 bit" drivers are nothing more than a 64 bit wrappers thunking to 32 bit code . Or there may not even be a real 64 bit driver from the manufacturer so a"generic" one from the windows disk is used instead and you get like PIO performance from your SATA II HD.
Unless you verify that every single driver 32 bit has an exact 64 bit counterpart, your not really testing the same thing.
You may be able to go through and update all the important drivers, Chiset, SATA, Audio and Video with drivers direct from the manufacturer and hope they have quality 64 bit drivers. It may help. Start with the device that seemed to slow down the most between tests.
