Excessive harddisk access after 5 minutes since bootup

    Hallo,
when booting up Windows7 SP1 exactly after 5 minutes (not idling) the system starts to scan the HDDs for 2 min. It shows up clearly in Ressourcemonitor and XPerf but its not visible in Process Explorer so i cannot determine the exact source. I don't know what it is but its very reliably present after every reboot. Maybe its something new from SP1 i don't know. If i kill the corresponding service host in Ressourcemonitor Aero turns off. Maybe DWM or any dependency is affected or maybe it kills all service hosts. :)

Anyone else having this as well? I want to know what it is. Any ideas how to analyze it?

Since SP1 hasn't gone final, you never know what to expect. If this is a brand new install, it could be due to indexing. Either way, I wouldn't trust using SP1 on a system that's anything more than a test system.

I don't think it's a new feature in SP1 since I haven't had any issues in the RTM for SP1, especially not something like this. Perhaps your drives were never fully indexed?

I would tend to agree with either indexing or something like your system protection running a scan in the background. The screen here shows how the resource monitor appears when idle without moving the cursor around for a few minutes.
