Windows 7: After installing printer drivers, shutdown time drags on to 30 seconds

After installing printer drivers, shutdown time drags on to 30 seconds

Hi, before I start I'd like to thank all of you and say that I'm running a windows 7 64bit system.

Before I installed the drivers for my printer, an HP laser jet CP1025nw, my laptop's shutdown time skyrocketed from being 10 seconds usually, to over 30 seconds!

Is this a known issue? Is there a way to track down exactly which process is dragging out the shutdown so I can uninstall/stop/speed it up? I've tried uninstalling it, and it still stays at 30 seconds, but either way I still need this installed so I can print from this computer. (I really have no other choice)

The first time I installed it from the disc, but the second time I got the more up-to date driver from the HP website, still no change

I really appreciate this guy, you're life savers.

It likely installed a handful of services that you mostly don't need. Go into msconfig>Startup and google each one to turn off all but what you absolutely need. If you dont' need to scan from your desktop then you probably don't need any - certainly not the updater and ink level sales app.

If this continues to hang your shutdown, check the Performance Log to see if it identifies what exactly is hanging. Here are troubleshooting fundamentals: Computer lags every couple seconds

You may need to advance to the tool used by the pros to trace these issues: Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues - MSFN
